With pink fun run shirts on our back and NAWO in our hearts, the available QLD committee proudly joined the IWD fun run in Brisbane over the weekend. It was impossible to feel grumpy at being awake and upright so early on a Sun morning as the energy from 1000s of women (and men) set an impressive pace along the banks of the Brisbane river. To the sounds of the Defence Force band, DJs and an ever supportive pink tutu-wearing event cheer squad, this sea of pink meandered around the city. And while our time wasn’t as impressive as the winner of the 5kms, we had a great morning.
While Josephine, Davina and myself were just three individuals in a sea of many, it was a good reminder of what the collective effort can achieve, whatever the target may be. In this case, 12,000 participants raising over $480,000 for breast cancer.
Happy IWD to all the QLD NAWO members. Be Bold for Change and we look forward to seeing you next time you come to an event.
