Destination YOU!

NAWO’s recent South Australian Quick Bite invited guests to join an interactive workshop designed to equip them with the tools and knowledge to take control of their career path.

Guest speaker Fiona Magnus, National Manager – Talent & Sourcing at BlueScope,  discussed developing a clear plan, drawing out your own personal motivations and, most importantly, managing your own career development and personal brand. An interactive workshop followed, enabling guests to start mapping out a plan-of-attack and draw out key things needed to start on the journey to ‘destination YOU’.

With everyone willing to share experiences and undertake some great discussion in their small groups there was quite a buzz in the room.

Thanks to Linda Medder, Transport & Purchasing Manager – SA, BlueScope, and NAWO SA Committee Member for the following key takeaways:

  • Know your personal values and how to use them in a positive way for your career
  • When thinking about a career change, understand and sell the transferability of skills to unlock barriers
  • Take some time to let yourself think about your aspirations – don’t just get caught up in more of the same
  • Be specific and purposeful when asking for career development and guidance

@DivCouncilAus's 2019-2020 Inclusion@Work Index, 43% of workers strongly support their organisation taking action to create a diverse and inclusive workplace – up from 37% in 2017. Only 3% still oppose any kind of action (same as in 2017). #diversity #inclusion
