Right now, NAWO is in north western Australia working with the Port Hedland and Newman communities on how to develop careers in the Pilbara.
Working with our Gold Corporate Member BHP, we are delivering our first roadshow of career development events. A combination of excellent speakers and workshops, the events target those women and men who may have found themselves in a remote region due to a partner working in a resources role, but have struggled to continue their career in their area of expertise. We are working with them to gain insights into examining their career successes to date, identifying transferable skills and looking at their next role within a new field or within an existing company.
Michelle Cowan, Senior Coach, Fremantle Football Club Women’s Team, is speaking about her incredible career story and local BHP employees will share their expertise in achieving unexpected career moves. Aileen Armstrong, Managing Director, Achieving Synergy and NAWO WA State Committee Member, is running the workshop on the challenges that may arise in our careers and how to determine your next best move.
We are also offering a fascinating site tour of the BHP Mooka OCRS Mine in Port Hedland.
It is fantastic to be working with BHP to offer career development events to the communities of Port Hedland and Newman – the events are free and everyone is welcome regardless of skillset and career experience.

It’s not too late to book the Newman events – they run until Friday the 20th October.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. pic.twitter.com/N7YxjyZ7Ys
