Thursday 21st February, NAWO members, Asahi staff, and special guests poured into Asahi Beverage’s Heathwood Distribution Centre… all eager to participate in QLD’s first event of the year! The focus of the event was ‘influencing and negotiating through a win-win mindset’ and it certainly didn’t disappoint!
After a tasty lunch and some good networking, the event was kicked off by Nathan Lucinsky, DC Manager at Asahi, passionately describing how this new facility was born through team work and determination only 1 year ago. Anna Reid, General Manager of Manufacturing, then took the stage, sharing her knowledge of interest-based negotiation theory. Challenging thinking, Anna asked: ‘Why can’t we all be winners and expand the pie? Let’s be truly collaborative and actively listen!’.
Anna’s presentation was coupled with an opportunity for the audience to share thoughts with one another on how they might approach an upcoming negotiation opportunity. Following Anna’s great presentation, Sandra Gibbs, the newly appointed Chief Supply Chain Officer, shared with us her thoughts on what really matters when it comes to doing business. Her take-away message was that there is no one magic formula, but rather a rite of passage experience to find your own way.
The event concluded with the opportunity to tour the facility – and experience their state of the art systems and processes, where they store well known premium brands such as Peroni and Pepsi! We all left with the key messages bouncing around in our heads: don’t underestimate your influence; be a risk-taker; collaborate and be accountable; and most importantly – be ‘real’.
It was a great start to the Qld NAWO event calendar, and we look forward to seeing everyone at our next exciting event!
