General Manager, Rio Tinto - Dampier Salt

Brendon was appointed General Manager of Dampier Salt in November 2018. Dampier Salt is a joint venture between Rio Tinto (68%), Marubeni Corporation (22%) and Sojitz (10%). Dampier Salt has three operations located at Dampier, Port Hedland and Lake MacLeod (near Carnarvon) with headquarters in Perth and sales, marketing and logistics activities performed in Singapore.

Brendon joined Rio Tinto in 2008. In his eleven years with the company Brendon has worked across iron ore, salt and energy business units in Karratha (6 years), Brisbane (3 years) and Perth (2 years, ongoing) spanning across operational, commercial and project roles.

Prior to his current role with Dampier Salt, Brendon was the Manager, Rail Logistics & Optimisation, a team of 100 people based at the Rio Tinto Operations Centre who remotely control the Rio Tinto rail network. Before this, he was also Marine Manager with responsibility for Rio Tinto’s marine operations in the Ports of Dampier and Cape Lambert in the Pilbara.

Prior to joining Rio Tinto, Brendon was a Director of JFA Consultants, which at that time was a boutique consulting firm specializing in port & coastal engineering.

Brendon holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil & Construction) from Curtin University and an MBA from the University of Queensland.

Brendon and his wife Amy have three children aged between 6 and 11. Away from work, Brendon is actively involved with running junior sporting clubs in his local community, and is a member of the Board of angelhands – a Perth-based not-for-profit organisation working with clients who are journeying on the road to recovery from extreme trauma.
