Diversity and Inclusion Adviser – Incitec Pivot Limited

Davina Shearer is a Diversity and Inclusion Practitioner, specialising in the development of Indigenous participation and gender equality strategies.

As part of her role with Incitec Pivot Limited, Davina works to align diversity and inclusion initiatives to business outcomes such as improvements in organisational culture, productivity, safety, innovation and employee engagement. By supporting employees to implement, embed and integrate inclusive practices into the everyday, she believes they can enjoy the benefits.

“Diversity and inclusion is everyone’s responsibility,” said Davina. “The key to systemic change is having everyone contribute and ensuring that individuals, at all levels of the business, can participate, influence and contribute to the diversity and inclusion agenda.”

Davina is a member of the National Association of Women in Operations’ Queensland Committee. She is an advocate for a results-based approach to inclusion through the concept of diversity of thought. “Leveraging the diversity of our employees to create an inclusive environment and give our business a competitive advantage just makes sense.”

She holds a Master of Arts in Terrorism, Safety and Security and across her 25-year professional career, Davina has held positions with major organisations such as Telstra, Australian Federal Police and QGC. She has transferred her experience and aforementioned study to her current HR role at Incitec Pivot Limited. In 2018 Davina undertook a workshop through Harvard Business School on Immunity to Change. The workshop has provided Davina with the knowledge and tools to challenge assumptions and assist individuals and our business progress IPL’s diversity agenda.

Davina is very proud of her own diverse heritage and the innate characteristics these bring to her work. Her Mother is Aboriginal from both the Kamilaroi and Yuwaalaraay peoples and Father of Scottish heritage with her Grand Father migrating to Australia in the early 1900’s. Her own goal is to educate and inspire through building relationships.
