State Supply Chain Manager, Officeworks

Dean’s career spans 27 years in the stationery industry in Australia.

Having intended to join the military I took a casual position with Viking Office Products who were at the time Australia’s biggest mail order supplier of stationery and other Office Supplies. Opportunities within Viking led to a changein my intended career path.

During the Viking period I was able to gain valuable experience in the Warehousing, Customer Service and Finance. As part of an international business I was able to gain experience while seconded to the UK in differing approaches to service and logistics. After returning to Australia the Viking business was soon after acquired by Officeworks as part of the vision to expand beyond the retail sector into a market that Officeworks was yet to engage with to any great depth. It was at this time I was given the opportunity to move into HR and gain valuable experience in helping to train and develop the warehousing team.

An opportunity then arose to join the warehouse leadership team as a junior leader in the management of the Goods Inwards teams at the North Rocks facility. It was from here I was seconded to assist in the acquisition of the Sands and MacDougall business in W.A and in a huge learning curve being made responsible for the setup of the first Officeworks online warehousing facility in QLD.

After returning to my role in the Customer Fulfilment Centre I was placed into the Operations Manager role for NSW and then soon after into the State Supply Chain Manager for NSW and ACT. During this time I have participated in the supply chain transformation program for the new QLD facility as well as engaging in managing the growth in people and infrastructure in Officeworks biggest facility in NSW.
