SUZANNA SHEED MP
State Member of Parliament
Suzanna Sheed is the Independent State Member of Parliament for the Shepparton District, elected after a short but hugely successful grass roots campaign in 2014.
Suzanna was raised on a farm at Jerilderie, one of five siblings.
She attended boarding school in Melbourne and went on to study law at Melbourne University. She has raised two children in Shepparton and practised law in the town for more than 30 years.
An active member of the community Suzanna decided to run for State Parliament after becoming increasingly frustrated with the major parties and their lack of investment in the region.
The campaign slogan, 'Stand Up, It’s Our Turn', resonated strongly with voters and caused the upset of the state election, turning the once safe seat into a marginal one.
Suzanna is now working hard on her major policy platforms including securing investment in transport infrastructure (rail and road), improving access to quality health and education facilities and addressing the high level of youth unemployment.
Since being elected, she has secured $168.5 million for the redevelopment of Goulburn Valley Health, as well as significant investment in transport infrastructure, including $43.5 million for improved rail connectivity and $10.5 million towards a Shepparton Bypass route.
Suzanna has also achieved $1 million for the development of a Shepparton Education Plan to transform schooling in the region for children from birth to 18 years, and is advocating for urgent change in the Murray Darling Basin Plan to address the detrimental social and economic impact it is having on the community.
